The One-stop Shop For Altcoins

KuCoin is a cryptocurrency exchange that offers a huge selection of altcoins. In fact, they offer over 150 cryptocurrencies, making them a great place to go for the smaller, lesser-known cryptos. If you are one for investing in altcoins and are always hunting for the newest coins, this is certainly an exchange to keep on your radar. In fact, for us at TotalCrypto, KuCoin is the go-to exchange for any coin we can’t find on Binance. If you’re interested in reading more about how Kucoin stacks up against Binance, check out our comparison article. Their wide selection is one of KuCoin’s major selling points and sets it apart from exchanges like Coinbase that are more limited in scope.

Interface and Design

Kucoin exchange trading screen Another major plus point for KuCoin is their intuitive design. Clearly, a lot of thought and effort has gone into the UX, creating a simple trading interface. This is great news, especially for beginners, as many trading interfaces are overcrowded with information and can be a little daunting. KuCoin strikes a good balance, with all the important information visible to help with your trading whilst not cluttering up the screen and overwhelming the user.

Mobile App: Trade On The Go

Kucoin mobile app graphic As of March 2018, a fully working version of the KuCoin app was released on Android. The IOS app is still in BETA, although it should be finished sometime this year. This means that you can trade from your phone or tablet. This makes crypto trading easy and allows you to make trades even when you are on the move, away from a computer. The app has the same sleek, well-designed interface and reviews of the app seem favorable; currently sitting just below four stars on Google Play. A tip for Android users is to double check the reviews to see that the particular phone model and operating system you are using hasn’t had any issues. Some users have reported problems with the app, so it’s a good idea to double check before downloading the latest version.

Seven Years In The Making

In general, KuCoin is a carefully thought through and well-executed exchange. This is because KuCoin was seven years in the making, with the team beginning work on the exchange back in 2011. This level of planning and consideration makes KuCoin very easy to use, with enough detail for expert traders but a simple enough interface that beginners will not be put off. All of this makes it very straightforward to trade cryptocurrencies on KuCoin.

Is KuCoin Secure?

Naturally, a major concern with any cryptocurrency exchange is whether it is secure. As mentioned previously, KuCoin was a long time in the making, with a lot of time effort put into the development. On top of all the aforementioned design benefits, this long gestation period means that the security of KuCoin is top notch. In fact, one of their stated aims is to have security that is comparable to any other financial institution. As such, you can be comfortable in the knowledge that KuCoin is secure.

Lack of Fiat Currency Pairings

For many traders, a potential drawback of KuCoin was the fact that you cannot directly deposit regular fiat currencies into your account. However, KuCoin has recently launched a partnership with Simplex, allowing you to buy BTC with Dollars or Euros directly on KuCoin, without the need to transfer BTC in from elsewhere. This has addressed a major shortfall with KuCoin, although there is still no support for GBP. So, if you’re in the UK, you will need to buy you BTC elsewhere, and transfer it into KuCoin. In fact, most of the trading pairings offered on KuCoin are Bitcoin pairings. This means that you cannot directly trade altcoins, instead having to first trade to bitcoin and then back into the desired altoin. This is similar other exchanges e.g. Binance, so is not a huge drawback. Unfortunately, when you want to withdraw money from KuCoin, you still have to withdraw it as cryptocurrency to a different exchange and then swap that crypto for your chosen currency. This means that KuCoin is not your one-stop cryptocurrency shop. Instead, you will still need to buy bitcoin elsewhere, and transfer that to KuCoin.

Automated Portfolio Management

Shrimply crypto portfolio management tool KuCoin recently announced they are working with the portfolio automation company Shrimpy to bring automated trading to their cryptocurrency trading. Shrimpy is a powerful portfolio management tool that automatically trades on your behalf, with a pre-determined strategy that you set. Applying this to cryptocurrency trading is a really exciting prospect and something that will allow a more hands-off approach to crypto trading.

Trade Crypto On The People’s Exchange

Want to be shown the ins and outs of the exchange? Our Kucoin guide tells you everything you need to know.

KuCoin is a slick and easy-to-use exchange that is both secure and powerful. It offers a huge range of cryptocurrencies, so is great for those looking to deep dive into the world of alt-coins. Their recent collaboration with Simplex means that now you can buy BTC in the exchange, fixing a major previous complaint, although the lack of support for GBP is a little annoying. The Android app is good and those with Apple devices should soon be able to trade on mobile too. Still, the fact that you cannot trade BTC (or other coins) back to ‘regular’ currency means that KuCoin is still not a one-stop crypto shop. You will need to transfer crypto out of KuCoin to another exchange, like Coinbase, that will allow you to transfer to USD, EUR or GBP.
